Psychotherapy

“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart.  Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

-Carl Jung

Sometimes life is simply hard. My approach to psychotherapy is to help you gain perspective so you can manage stressful times and rediscover the spark that may feel lost in your life. Most psychological problems stem from feeling disconnected with others. We will explore how you love and relate to others, and how the love of others has impacted you so that you can love yourself more deeply and deepen your relationship with others.

Talk therapy is the core of psychotherapy, and can help you to identify the source of your suffering so you can express your desires and goals. I am an interactive therapist and will assist you in discovering what works best for you in your own healing. Together, we will explore the parts of yourself that are vital to your true self and identify the parts that do not serve you any longer. We will work to bring your true self out of shadow and into light.

The issues I work with – depression, anxiety, and PTSD – all stem from thought processing problems. Many depressed and anxious people have harmful thoughts that ruminate in their minds and they become stuck in these patterns. I will help you find your map to bring positivity and vitality back into your life.

In psychotherapy, I use a combination of Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) allows you to identify places where your thoughts go "off track". As we become more aware of your thought patterns, we can identify how and  when these patterns occur and replace them with alternative ways of thinking. CBT is very interactive and provides many opportunities for us to engage and understand the thought patterns that are holding you back in life.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy can help you to understand how your childhood background impacts the person you are today. Regardless of your age and stage of life, your childhood experiences are always with you. As you begin to understand the impact these events have on you, you can more easily resolve issues in your current life. We will explore ways you were treated by your caregivers and how you may have been adversely affected. I will listen and encourage your thoughts to come to the surface without judgment.
