Depression

“People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonance of our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive. That’s what it’s all finally about.”  Joseph Campbell

Depression is one of the most common reasons people seek therapy. Depression can stem from loss, humiliation or defeat and can make you feel trapped in your circumstances. Feeling isolated and empty is no way to live. Some of the most common symptoms of depression include:

  • Sadness

  • Loneliness

  • Lack of appetite or overeating

  • Weight loss or weight gain

  • Fatigue

  • Hopelessness

  • Poor concentration

Gender often dictates how depression is manifested. Women can turn inward and inflict pain on themselves through cutting, eating disorders and other forms of self-harm. Men tend to externalize pain and feel victimized by others, discharging their distress through violence. Regardless of gender, depressed individuals view themselves through a negative lens.

Knowing when to seek help is important. Whether you are experiencing mild or severe depression, we will work together to put the spark back into your life.
